HxC issues with firmware versions greater than 1.8.2.40

Post by HiJacker »

I have installed two HxC Rev C in an Amiga 2000 and an Amiga 1200. I would like to use the latest firmware to take advantage of the new features. Unfortunately, after updating, neither of them works correctly anymore. Depending on the version, it either no longer loads HFE files or reports read errors or that the disk is not a DOS disk.

With the latest firmware, it briefly loads the HFE files but then stops and displays that no disk is inserted in the drive. Only version 1.8.2.40 works flawlessly (also again after downgrade). The CFG file is also correct (regardless of whether I select AUTO or Amiga interface Mode). The HFE files are fine as well and were recreated from ADF files using the latest software.

I have also tried multiple SD cards, but unfortunately, without success. Maybe someone can help me i am out of ideas...

Hello,
Please tell me which switch setting you are using
and please share the cfg and hfe files causing the issue.

Thank you for your reply.. i didn't get a message, so i saw your respond just now...

Switch Setting: Do you mean the jumper settings?
I'm using HXC Drive A as DF0 und B as DF1. So Jumpers are ID0 Drive A and ID1 Drive B. No twisted Floppy Cable.

When i updated the firmware i didn't change any hardware settings.
Attached you find the config file. I added the .jpg extensions because i couldn't upload the file with his original extension in this forum...
The HFE Files are too large (only 256kb are accepted in the attachement section...
But you can download the complete files i'm using on my sd card here:

Thanks, your files and settings seem valid. I will try them on my A500.

Have you tried to change/force the interface setting in the emulator menu ?

Yes i also tried it without the ini File, but same problem. For me it looks like a problem with the update...

Try to reset the emulator parameters. remove the sdcard , press the select/middle button, then choose "clear eeprom" -> and finally "yes".

I tried resetting it, unfortunately with the same result. I freshly updated to the latest version, performed the reset, and tried an SD card with and without a config file. It just doesn't read the ADF files. Even changing the setting to "Load from HFE files" or "Amiga DD" doesn't make any difference.

I used your files.
No issue detected so far.

Which HxC have you exactly ? Can you post a picture ?

Are you currently trying it on the Amiga 2000 or 1200 ?

Here you can see a picture of one of my two HXCs. Both are identical. One of them is used in an Amiga 2000, the other in an Amiga 1200. Both have the same problem with the newer firmwares...

Can you explain me what you have soldered on the jumper block ? Can you disconnect this and retry with just a normal jumper on ID0-A ?

I soldered a switch there. But that was actually the first thing I had removed. For testing, I of course used the HXC without the connectors and only with jumpers. Unfortunately, that's not the issue. I also suspected the floppy cable, but since I tested it on two different Amigas (2000 and 1200) with different cables, I’ve basically ruled that out as well. Especially since the old firmware versions work. Something must have changed starting with firmware 1.8.6 that’s causing the problem...

I didn't managed to reproduce the issue so you must have something different.

Have you tried this exact setup ? with only the ID0-A jumper ? if not please try it.

I'm pretty sure I already tried that, but just to be sure, I'll test it again and let you know. Thanks.
