EII, Kyroflux and HFE Questions

Post by synthprof »

Hi,

So I have a box full of EII disks which I need to convert to HFE format. I have a Kyroflux Sampler board, a 360K drive from my EII and all the cables etc as required. The Kyroflux software will read and save the data from disks without a problem. I have tried FM, MFM, EII Sector Image and all seem to read the complete geometry of the disk and create an output file. However, the load option on the HxC (top button) always reports "Load error! Read file error!". The log file also reports "ERROR: No load support for the file xxxxxxx.img", where X is the file name. If I run a preservation dump of the disc HxC will read the files, but there is one per track and side so this is not suitable for conversion to a single HFE file. Does anyone have a suggested output format from Kyroflux which the HxC program will read or do I need to dig deep into the raw options here?

Many thanks in advance,
Andy

Hi,

So, it looks like the load button is for reading in HFE files! Whoops, what I need is the next button down which is for loading a RAW image. There doesn't seem be a preset profile for an Emulator II disk, so would anyone like to suggest the correct parameters or another profile which is suitable. The disks are 360K DS/DD with an MFM encoding (I think). This must have been done a millions times by someone somewhere!

Thanks in advance?

What I have done is posted the complete collection of disks I have copied using the Kyroflux system as imagine files. These were recovered using the 'EMU II sector' profile. Would anyone like to have a look at these images and see why cannot be converted to HFE format using the HxC utility program? I know there a couple of people on this forum who are good at spotting this sort of stuff. There is talk of a 'emuiifd' file and EII format files, but this doesn't seem to tie in with anything I am doing here. I think this file gets around the problem of the difference between performance and library disks? Or does it? All the images in the collection can be boot successfully using the extant 5.25" drive in the EII I have here. I can confirm the HxC utility will load these files as raw imagine and the track layout screen would seem to suggest they are valid.

Change the .img file extensions to .emuiifd, then you can load them or batch convert them.

Thanks Jeff,

As ever, many thanks for saving the day! This is just the last bit for information which was needed to complete the task. If anyone wants to download the disk images I have created and put them to use they will up until April.

Best wishes,
Andy
