After many days of trial and error, I really need help. I don't know what to do.
I have a CPC6128 here that I have removed the 3” drive and replaced it with a HxC revision 7. An external drive is not connected.
I assume I didn't make the connection correctly with my original CPC cable.
Or a wrong ID on the DIP switch?
Or wrong settings in the software?
Attached are photos of this.
Or do the .HFE files have to be written directly from the software to the SD card? I work with LinuxMint and have Windows 8.1 running in a virtual machine that is not allowed “out”.
Can someone give me a photo of their original floppy cable and the ID for “HxC only” operation and give me a tip for the Windoes software?
Thanks in advance!
Grrrr
Disk read error - what else?
Re: Disk read error - what else?
Hi guys, if you are using the HxC as the only drive with the internal cable, can you please send me photos of it or send me a watertight description?
My problem is that there are too many contradictory "solutions": turn the floppy cable on the CPC board, then on the HxC, then turn the connector to the left, then to the right. Then short-circuit pins 23 and 24, but where do you count from?
Do I need to jumper sides A and B, or can I get by with site A? What do I need to set in the Windows software SD HxC Floppy Emulator? Interface mode Amstrad CPC, Generic Shugart or Emu Shugard? Auto, Double Step?
And in Interface Settings, From HFE or something else?

Solved: CPC6128 with internal HxC (Disk read error - what else?)
2025-02-07 (If anyone is still looking for help here)
Now I have found the "official" instructions for installing a HxC as an single drive in an Amstrad CPC6128:
https://www.cpcwiki.eu/index.php/DIY:Floppy_Drives
A special feature of my CPC: the 24-pin crimp connector wasn't one. When I tried to pull it off, I almost damaged the circuit board. The thing is soldered, which means you have to think a little "outside the box" when following the instructions.
The dip switch is set to ID1. Surprisingly, this time it worked spontaneously!
Attached you will find the summarized process with photos and the text in German.
Next I will bleach the yellowed keys of the keyboard...
Best regards, RS
