Post by Cronambs »

Hi i recently bought a HXC SD MAX Floppy Emulator and works great but came across an issue in which no matter what is selected for drive A, B copies even when B was selected with different file, I tried following instructions with swiching dips 1 and 6 on and dont seem to work

Internal drive is disconnected. I'm confused on what to set the dip switches to since the manual doesn't mention the HXC SD MAX settings (from https://lotharek.pl/productdetail.php?id=289).

Doing a bit more digging found out the cable was made to emulate a PC floppy cable…

External cable wiring…

34 Way Connector on HxC = 14 Pin DIN Atari ST Floppy Connector

------------------------ ---------------------------------------

2 Density Select = N/C
4 Reserved = N/C
6 Reserved = N/C
8 Index = 4 Index Pulse (yellow)
10 Motor Enable A = 8* Motor On (dkbrown*) n°1/n°5
12 Drive Sel B = 6 Drive 1 Select (purple) n°2/n°6
14 Drive Sel A = 5 Drive 0 Select (dkgreen) n°3/n°7
16 Motor Enable B = 8* Motor On (dkbrown*) n°4/n°8
18 Direction = 9 Direction In (orange)
20 Step = 10 Step (grey)
22 Write Data = 11 Write Data (pink)
24 Floppy Write Enable = 12 write gate (ltblue)
26 Track 0 = 13 Track 00 (ltbrown)
28 Write Protect = 14 Write Protect (ltgreen)
30 Read Data = 1 Read Data (red)
32 Head Select = 2 Side 0 Select (white)
34 Disk Change/Ready = N/C
Any Odd Pins = 7 + 3 Logic Ground (black + dkblue)

So no rewiring was needed except W300 & W301 on the Atari Ste mainboard needs trace jumper at pins 2&3 cut and a jumper added to pins 1&2. Dips need to be set to n°3 & n°6. If used on the internal ribbon cable then it is n°1 & n°6 but since it is wired as a PC interface cable then that would cause drive A to be always accessed along with drive B.
