Compatibility problems with Amiga 500 demos?
Compatibility problems with Amiga 500 demos?
Hi!
I have an Amiga 1200 and some OCS demos don't work with my SD HxC Floppy Emulator.
I know this is not due to the AGA chip because several Amiga users told me these demos work on 1200.
9 Fingers (Spaceballs):
Loading is ok from disk #1.
But the demo doesn't want to load the disk #2.
I've tried several ADF and DMS versions of the disk images (found on TOSEC, pouet.net, scene.org...)
Hardwired (Crionics / Silents):
According to my searches, the demo does some measurements first.
Maybe it measures the speed of the floppy drive to know if it can run the whole demo?
(I know the demo measures for example the execution time of the multiplication and compares it to normal time on a 68000).
World of Commodore (Sanity):
Loading is ok at the beginning.
One minute after, the Amiga freezes with an error message (SOS System Error Nr $049) just after a disk access.
I would like to know if some Amiga users experience the same problems?
Do these problems come from the HxC Floppy Emulator?

Hardwired and 9 Fingers is working with the emulator (for WOC i don't know).Strider wrote:Hi!

Please read the user manual page 7 and correct your jumper setting :

I've already set the right jumpers.Jeff wrote: Please read the user manual page 7 and correct your jumper setting :

Maybe this is a problem with the A1200? In some days I should buy an A500, so I will tests these disk images on it.
Re: Compatibility problems with Amiga 500 demos?
In fact afters some tests it seems there are a regression somewhere.Strider wrote:I've already set the right jumpers.Jeff wrote: Please read the user manual page 7 and correct your jumper setting :

Firmware update soon.
Re: Compatibility problems with Amiga 500 demos?
Jeff- some old demos work odd on 1200..
example - state of the art glitches on 1200 - works ok on 600
anyway, now all buyers know whya is valuable to buy Jeffs produckts --- IMMEDITATE SUPPORT and firmaware upgrades !
Well done Jeff !

You can use a wet sponge instead of your tongue.lotharek wrote: i`m fed up with licking postage stamps... i have licked almost 200 hundreds stamps....bleeeee
In The Netherlands, stamps are nowadays self-adhesive. So not licking required :-p Maybe a tip for the Polish postal service.

Re: Compatibility problems with Amiga 500 demos?
Old topic resurrection because I now have an Amiga 500 (with a 500 KB RAM extension) and I experience some problems with the same demos, except Hardwired which works perfectly:
9 Fingers (Spaceballs):
Loading is ok. After about 1 minute, the visual effects go crazy and there is big crappy pixels on the screens, although the music still goes on.
Tested with ADF and DMS disk images.
World of Commodore (Sanity):
Unlike my previous test on A1200, the demo doesn't load.
In fact it loads track 1, 0, 15 and then 1 and that's all.
Tested with 3 different disk images.
Can anyone test these demos on a real Amiga 500? I would like to know if there is a problem with the disk images, the HxC Floppy or the Amiga.
For information I have HxC Floppy rev B and firmware v1.7.1.2

Re: Compatibility problems with Amiga 500 demos?
I found the problem with this one: in the settings of the HxC Floppy Manager the option "DF1 drive" was set to "on".Strider wrote: 9 Fingers (Spaceballs):

When I set it to "off", the demo asks me for disk 2 and all is OK now.
Maybe a bug in the firmware?
(Note I've tested World of Commodore with DF1 drive disabled and it still doesn't work)

Use the new experimental HFE format and this will workStrider wrote: (Note I've tested World of Commodore with DF1 drive disabled and it still doesn't work)
