Gotek support on a GigaDevice GD32F015R8T6

Post by Mikerochip »

I (think I) correctly followed the flashing directions, to use a USB A-A cable,
and used the GigaDevice software to upload the gotek_hxc_fw_installer.bin.

Then placed the bin file, and HxCFEUSB_V5_2_1_2a.UPD on the Fat32 usb key.

Initially, the drive powered on, with only the bottom _ segment of the 8.8.8. display lit up, and, eventually, it showed the number 887.

I presume this means it's not compatible with the STM32F105?

It is compatible with the STM32F105.
BUT
It is probably not compatible with the GD32F015R8T6

But it is interesting that the install firmware is almost working.

Does it normally show the three bottom lines of the 8.8.8. led display lit up, as part of the install?

I presume there's no debug output, to see where the process is stalling?

Otherwise, yeah!
From what I can see, the GD32F105 appears to be fairly compatible, but, appears to be quite a bit faster than the STM32F105.

Interesting comparison of the F103: https://smdprutser.nl/blog/stm32f103-vs-gd32f103/
The F103 appears to be an exact 100% compatible mcu, but, the F105, it seems, is not!

Anyhow!

All I really want, now, from my floppy emulator, is, connection to a small screen, and on loading of a disk image (.hfe, .adf, whatever) and load a similarly named .bmp/.png, and show it on the tiny screen!

Just means I can get an almost exact floppy disk replacement experience :D

"insert" the disk, disk label shows on the screen, and we continue on as normal.

Interesting idea??

I know we already have on-monitor disk access display, but, this is something a bit different :)
A better user experience? Maybe!

I have no GD32F105 gotek here, so it will very hard for me to support it properly.
