Solder the TTL to the correct header pins on the Gotek. Consult the documentation Jeff has made available to know what Gotek pins to solder to which TTL wire.

Basically, you take the Gotek PCB out of the plastic casing its in. Then you bridge two pins on the Gotek to put it into programming mode. Then you connect the ground/power between the TTL and the Gotek. Then you cross the transmit and receive pins between the TTL and the Gotek (so the Gotek receives what the TTL transmits and vice-versa). Double-check to see that the TTL is set to 3.3v (via a jumper on the TTL).

Buy a firmware license / upgrade server account from Jeff. Download the server/upgrade client software.

Run the server client and type in the account details that were provided after purchase. Configure the software to communicate to the proper COM port (what your USB TTL is communicating on). Once everything is correct, start the flash procedure.

You should wind up with LDR on the screen of the Gotek. Desolder all your stuff from the Gotek and put it back in its plastic case.

After that you can put the latest firmware on a USB (FAT32 formatted) drive and power up the Gotek with both buttons pressed down for a couple seconds. Let go and watch it update.

Copy a configuration file which is set to what you prefer (index mode, autoboot, resume last image, etc.) onto the USB drive. Put some HFE files on the USB drive. Configure the Interface (Generic Shugart, etc.) for each HFE as needed by your device and resave the HFE (may not be necessary, but doesn't hurt to check this if you're running into problems).

If you want to make your own HFE files then use an older (XP) desktop computer with an internal floppy drive to install Omniflop and image the disks to RAW image files. Load the RAW files into the HXE software and load them as the proper disk type and convert them to HFEs. Again, you may have to change the Interface Type in the HFE depending on what device you're putting the HxC Gotek into.
