Getting Started and seeing "Attn No Disk" on Roland MC-50.

Post by ozmic »

I have the SDCard version of the Emulator. It is installed in a Roland MC-50.

First I formatted a 4GB SD card on a mac - fat 32.
I pasted the HXCSDFE.CFG file onto the SD card. Then the latest upd file onto the SD card.
I followed the procedure for a firmware update written in the Update_Procedure.txt file.

When I insert the SD card into Emulator for the Roland MC-50, it shows:
>. Trashes
Choose a file

When I try and save anything to the SD card I get the message on the Roland screen:
Attn! NO DISK
Insert DISK & ENTER

I opened it up and both the cables are in their correct places.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Yes : The emulator ask you to choose a file :).
You need to have some HFE file on the sdcard. Each HFE is a floppy disk file image. This is what the emulator ask.

OK, I put the HFE files (from the Slim_SDHXCFE_DOSHD.zip) onto the SD card (tried both with and without the exe and dll files) and they show up on the emulator. I can press the buttons on the emulator and change to the 4 different HFE files.

But if I do anything on the MC-50, that involves the SD card, it cannot see the SD card.
Cheers.

I tried all three of the Roland options and with each, I got:
Attn! WRONG DISK
Change DISK & ENTER .

Any ideas from here?
I guess it could not be the jumpers in the MC-50?
Cheers.

Try to format the image with the MC-50.

There is nothing in the manual about formatting the disk. The only thing I could do on the MC-50 was initialize the disk. But it did not work.
I guess because it cannot see the disk?
I formatted the SD card again and installed the latest firmware.
Then formatted the SD card again and added the Slim_SDHXCFE_DOSHD files and again the MC-50 comes up with
Attn! NO DISK
Insert DISK & ENTER.
The SD card is a SDHC SanDisk 4GB
Cheers.

You use the wrong files again...

This file was reported to be working :

Is the emulator connected this way ? :

I used that photo as a guide when I first installed the emulator.
I looked again and it is the same set up along with the jumpers.

I put the hfe file from the link you sent. I managed to get some response. It allowed me to start the Initialize process, but did not complete.
I got Error22 DISK I/O

Cheers.

The file should be usable without initialize it.

OK. Thanks for the assistance.
I can't seem to get it going. Probably an error on my end.
I will revisit this in a month or two when I have some time.
I may sell this piece of gear as I doubt I would use it much.
Cheers.
