Hi All,

Just bought one of these devices.

Does this work with C64 - I have the 1571 external Disk drive with my machine.

Internaly this floppy disk drive isn't shugart based.
So for the moment not this not supported.

the 1581 is supported.

While I guess it's possible to put the floppy emulator inside a 1581, that's no good for me, because fastloaders will not work. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If somebody figured out to install the SD-card based floppy emulator inside a 1541 or 1571, I would be interested.

The Ultimate 1541 would suit me fine, but it's too expensive for me. Not sure it's worth the price.

The Ultimate 1541 is indeed the ultimate floppy emulator solution for the C64 which supports fast loaders and you get a freezer, RUE and cart emulator as bonus.
A HxC in a 1581 drive does not offer all the features and compatibility (a 1581 is not compatible with 1541 floppy (images) and 1541 fast loaders usually don't work on the 1581) as the 1541 Ultimate.
In my opinion the 1541 Ultimate is certainly worth its price.

As far as I know the 1541 & 1571 do not have a standard shugart floppy mechanism, so using the HxC with these drives will be impossible.

It's actually a bit more than just not being shugart based. The 1541 it pretty much it's own mini-computer, as it has it's own CPU. This allowed you to do some interesting stuff with it, but it also means any emulator has to emulate this, which is a huge undertaking. So the Ultimate 1541 is the way to go!

I actually ordered an Ultimate 1541 about a month ago. It hasn't been shipped, but I'm sure I'll be happy with it when I get it.
