Apple Mac (68k) Computers, can HxC emulate a Mac 800k?

Post by Dave_Bee »

This HxC drive is very impressive, well done!

Q: The old 68000 based Macs used basically 3 types of floppy drive some of which used a special variable speed disk. I would think all that stuff doesn't apply to the HxC, so my question is, would the HxC drive work with these old systems?
At a basic level the connector pin count is less compared to the IBM/DOS/Atari ST floppy.

The Macs used 400k and 800k which used a special system that can only be read nativly, no PC/IBM drive can read/write, after that came the SuperDrive 1.4MB which isn't directly readable in DOS but can be with software tools.
It's the 800k that causes most limitations in the old 68k classic Mac world.

For the moment no. But this should be possible later. The 68k macs floppy emulation need important change in the firmware.

+ 1! :D

68k macs floppy emulation would be extremly important for my setup (using a lot of 68k Macs in my studio). Would pay for that feature! :D

I will check if there are a way to do this on the actual hardware since the Mac68k floppy interface is a little different.
