Apple Mac (68k) Computers, can HxC emulate a Mac 800k?
Apple Mac (68k) Computers, can HxC emulate a Mac 800k?
This HxC drive is very impressive, well done!
Q: The old 68000 based Macs used basically 3 types of floppy drive some of which used a special variable speed disk. I would think all that stuff doesn't apply to the HxC, so my question is, would the HxC drive work with these old systems?
At a basic level the connector pin count is less compared to the IBM/DOS/Atari ST floppy.
The Macs used 400k and 800k which used a special system that can only be read nativly, no PC/IBM drive can read/write, after that came the SuperDrive 1.4MB which isn't directly readable in DOS but can be with software tools.
It's the 800k that causes most limitations in the old 68k classic Mac world.

For the moment no. But this should be possible later. The 68k macs floppy emulation need important change in the firmware.

Speaking of The "Classics",i need to dig my,Classic & Plus with Superdrive & One SE '030 out of attic! I hate they had to be stored up there, but just too much Vintage tech, not enough room! And the other half of course! Got PPC 801,Centris's,Quadra,Performers,LC II,G4,3x G3, & several others.See what i mean!

+ 1!
68k macs floppy emulation would be extremly important for my setup (using a lot of 68k Macs in my studio). Would pay for that feature!

I will check if there are a way to do this on the actual hardware since the Mac68k floppy interface is a little different.wirefall wrote:+ 1!

Cool! Be sure I'll donate for that feature!!! And of course I'll need two or three HxCs then!Jeff wrote:I will check if there are a way to do this on the actual hardware since the Mac68k floppy interface is a little different.wirefall wrote:+ 1!

To be more precise: I need support for SuperDrive 1.4MB!
