YAMAHA HQ90B Disklavier with Mitsubishi MF355E-492MD FDD

Post by puchg »

I have a Yamaha HQ90B Disklavier piano, but the Mitsubishi MF355E-492MD FDD does not read any more.
Now I have a Hxc flashed Gotek drive. The MF-355E-492MD has 26pin flat cable connector, so I made an adapter
following the drawing seen viewtopic.php?t=3528 . I only made 34 pin SHUGART
to 26 pin SY99 IDC 26 part. But I have no idea if the pin assignment of MF-355E-492MD is the same as the FDD
used in SY99.

Then I followed this method seen here viewtopic.php?t=3318 and made a USB stick.
The YouTube movie was very helpful, so I just copied what the person did. The USB stick was made and the hardware
setting was done.

However, the Disklavier does not ask me to format the disk, but keep showing "insert disk". It seems the piano
does not recognize the GOTEK.

I think the HQ90B is a domestic model, but the installed controller somehow looks similar to MX-100A.

I would really appreciate if someone could help to get this thing work.

Thank you.

I suspect that you should use something else than shugart mode with this one. try pc and S950 modes.

Hi Jeff,

I tested all "DD" mode of Menu 1, but "insert disk " was still there.

I wrote in my previous post that I wired according to the W7 schematic, but there are some pins left unconnected. On the schematic of W7, pin7 is GND,
but with my FDD it is connected to pin5 so pin7 is +5. Pin 9, 11, 13 are not connected to GND, because they are left unconnected
with some other schematics. Again I have no idea of pin assignment of my Mitsubishi FDD. I don't know if these pins have something to do
with the issue.

Do you see any activity on the Gotek Green LED when you try to read the disk ?

Also I have got the data sheet of FDC HD63266F on main board of the piano, so am thinking about checking the pin assignment from the
pins of the FDC to the cable.
