Sorry to interfere.

Regular maximum floppy size for ASR10 is 1600KB , not 1.44 MB.

Jeff just did an emulator with supports variable number of tracks, up to 255 or 128 for cpld version. How is this done... for me it's not so important...

ASR10 supports as standard 80 tracks, but Epsdisk can handle 82 tracks. So the question came: what if we try 255 tracks ?

Hi!
I've just tried Gotek with HxC latest firmware (3.0.8.2a) with Ensoniq TS-12 (version 3.05) and some problems are still there.
TS-12 is basically same as TS-10 (they differ afaik only by keyboard size and weight).
I don't have I2C LCD, so I use indexed mode.
HFE file mode is IBM PC 1.44 (as in QuickInstall for TS-10)
I found 2 jumper settings on Gotek+HxC that work.
1) MO jumper + S0 jumper
This way "Disk has been changed" message appears occasionally on TS-12's screen (while in Load mode), FAT is reread and file selection resets to the first one (and when you get again to the one you need there is very good chance to get "Disk has been changed" message again and then you start again). So it works basically (if you are fast and patient enough) but it is quite painful.
2) MO jumper only
This way no "Disk has been changed" messages at all. Which is nice until you choose another image on Gotek. TS-12 just doesn't reread FAT and nothing can be done to make it do so. Only power off - power on cycle helps (but all RAM content is gone after that which is bad if you work with samples).
But as Western wrote here few years ago if pin 34 is grounded for some time (less than second is enough) when image is changed then TS-12 knows that it should reread FAT and then it works as intended.
If it was just for myself I would probably install another button to ground pin 34 manually. But this project is for client and it should be done in more elegant way.

Hi nikimerz,
have the same problem here with my TS12. I previously installed this drive in a VFXsd and everything is working fine, but not with the TS.
Which conversion settings did you use in the converter software? For VFX i used the Ensoniq EPS 3,5DD and ONLY this was working, because the lack of standard format.
But the TS12 disk drive is a HD drive
Do you have a solution for the Pin2 output DD/HD switch signal? I guess, this must be solved over the HXC firmware.

Jumpers are on drive 0 (S0) and MO. Nothing on JA (Pin34 diskchange)

TS10/TS12 is different from VFX SD because pin 2 and 34.

On TS10, pin 2 is density select (like Shugart) but pin 34 is Disk Change (unlike Shugart).
On VFX SD, pin 2 is Disk Change (unlike Shugart) but pin 34 is ready (like Shugart).

So:

Ensoniq VFX SD is basically Shugart only with Disk Change on pin 2.
Ensoinq TS/ASR series is basically Shugart only with Disk Change on pin 34.

thanks mondo1976 for this information. I found a way now to adjust the HXCSDFE.CFG config file:

indexed mode (for USB emulator)
interface mode not AUTO, but IBM PC 720k
Floppy emulator mode custom, Pin2= density, Pin34= diskchange.

I can see and read the "raw" converted TSD200, 300, 1001, 1002, 1003....files. Fine :)

But, how can i open the mentioned before Quick install files HxCFE_Ensoniq_TS10?
There are 2 .hfe files in the folder: TS-DD.hfe and TS-HD.hfe.
When i load them into the HXC software (load a floppy file image) and try to open the disk browser,
i only can see the error message "Null sized DOS image, Invalid disk"
How can i add some files to the template files? e.g. sysex files or .edt files?

Thanks in advance for a short how to do :)

You don't, at least not like that. The disk browser is only for DOS images, and only a few devices actually use DOS image types. The Yamaha TX16W does (normal DOS 720K), and I think the Ensoniq ASR-X does as well (DOS 1.44 MB, I believe) -- the rest of the Ensoniq stuff uses proprietary formats that can't be read as a normal disk, and therefore disk browser won't work.

Some utilities can work with HFE files directly (ex: EMXP for E-mu Emax) but I'm not sure of any that work like that for Ensoniq. You might find it easiest to do such things with an old utility that works directly on floppies and then convert the modified floppies to an HFE. Giebler and Chickensys stuff would require an old computer, for the most part.

Also remember that the interface mode will have to be set per HFE if you're mixing density types, as you clearly can't treat TS-HD as a 720K disk, not TS-DD as a 1.44MB disk.

I found a way now to transfer sysex to the template files from the ts10 quickinstall folder.

Which file format settings were used to create these template files?

I actually try for a custom layout:
for HD
Track type: MFM
Number of tracks: 80
number of sides 2
Bitrate: 500.000
sectors: 20
sector size: 512
RPM: 300
Sector ID start: 0
Interleave: 1
Skew: 3
Side based: on
Auto GAP: on


for DD
Sectors: 10
Bitrate 250.000

Is this correct? I sometimes get the "Disc unformatted" error

Can you please submit your working configuration on your TS12? Which Emulator with which firmware do you use in your TS12? Because NikiMrz wrote about "a Gotek with HxC latest firmware (3.0.8.2a)"??? You use an HxC? With which Rev. number? Thank you!

Deselect "Auto" and select IBM 720k interface for DD and IBM 1.44M for HD

Jumper settings are S0 and MO

It's a GOTEK 1.44 drive with HxC 3.0.8.2 firmware. Standard firmware does NOT work.
