SDcard emulator on DOS PC Floppy disk fail (40)

Post by gianniuser »

:(

I double-checked many times my circuit and I think ok.
But I don't know how to properly configure J3.
When I turn on the PC the message Floppy disk fail (40).
I must also ask what I need to upload files to the SD-card?

Best regards

AFAIK you need to connect Pin 6 and Pin 2 on a normal PC with one standard 3.5" floppy drive. At least this is the setting I use. If you have set J3 correctly the drive select LED (D4) should be on for one or two seconds when you boot your PC (even if you don't have any SD card plugged into your emulator).

You need to create a HFE file on your SD card using the Windows loader software from the USB HxC floppy emulator project. There you can create empty HFE files in the format you need (e.g. 1.44 MB). Then you can write on this virtual floppy drive with the SD card emulator.

Thanks for the explanation,Sven.

Sorry if I do not understand.
Pins 2 and 6 are those of the PIC 18?
Function of LOAD HxCFloppyEmulator asks me a file image, which I have to upload?

Thanks again

No, of J3. You asked how to set J3 so I gave you the pin numbers of the respective J3 pins as outlined in the schematic.

Just load any image the emulator supports (see project homepage). Use any disk imager software you want, e.g. IMD (supports almost any disk format) or Winimage if you don't need support for non-PC compatible disk types. Once you have created the image(s) you can export it into a *.hfe file, you can then mount the hfe file on your SD card emulator.
