Fdrawcmd no good in win 98

Post by Mikorians »

I have an old win 98 machine with 5.25" drive, went to install 'compatible' hxcfloppyemulator, and it doesn't recognize that I even HAVE a floppy drive to make an image from.
Tried to install fdrawcmd and guess what? Win 2000 req'd!
I have limited time for accessing this system.

I also use 2floppy .FLP format which it won't read either.

It says it will create images, but I bet they aren't BOOTABLE images.

So what now?

Hi,

In this case just use ImageDisk under MS DOS to generate IMD files:

http://www.classiccmp.org/dunfield/img/index.htm

This software works very well.
Once you got the IMD files, just convert them with the hxc software on any machine.

BTW what is these .FLP file format ? can you provide me the files ?

2floppy was a disk image making program for DOS put out by PC Magazine.
It is a raw-type format that supports 5-1/4" 360K to 3-1/2" 1.44MB disks
It reads and writes track by track.
2file is the program that makes the .flp image file.
It was considered the best image maker for DOS circa 1991.
CPM enthusiasts swear by it!
Perhaps it supports older 5.25" formats then...
I will provide programs and sample image files.

If this is a raw image file, just use the raw loader of the hxc software with the right parameters.

Yeah, it had a 13 byte header (at least on a 360k image)
I chopped it off and it is in fact a raw binary image.
So how do I now examine the directory structure of an image file
to see if it's valid?

Edit: Never mind, I found it, looks good!
So now I will purchase in a few days!
Do you still need .flp file example, knowing this?

I'll post them by tomorrow afternoon.
I'll include a 1.44mb image also.

How unfortunate that your board limits your uploads to 256k.

1.44MB header "50434D00000200500012000002"
720K header "50434D00000200500009000002"

The drive arrived today.
Even if it gives me trouble (I doubt it)
Gotta say it:
What a nice looking piece of workmanship!
I will install it today!

Yep. A little fiddling and up she come!
I think I've got it set for two drives now also.
This helps a lot when you've only got 360K!

No troubles. This old PC lives again!

Purpose: Restoration project, running REAL old DOS games
And windows 3.0. Nostalgia.
