Atari MegaST with HD Kit

Post by Joebar »

Hi,

my MegaST has a HD kit that doubles the clock of the floppy controller depending on the HD out signal on PIN 2 of the floppy cable.
HxC has DSKCHG on PIN 2. How can I use HD disks with HxC on my ATARI? So far I switch 5V/GND manually on my HD kit which seems to work. Is there a way to get the DD/HD signal from the HxC?

Thanks

Remove the SD, press select to enter the embedded menu -> Interface cfg -> custom.
Then you can set the pin02 & pin34 function.

Hi,

thanks for the info. I found already out about the menu by accident. ;-)
Is there a way to do this by the HXCSDFE.CFG file?

Thanks

That would be great! Knowing the offset and necessary values would be helpful to patch it into the file for now.
I wasn't able to identify it from the file format description.
btw.: I succesfully transplanted the HxC into a SF354 with DD/HD switching. So far the DENSITY signal requires an extra cable from the SF354 to the MegaST. I will try to use the unused /DS1 line instead and get rid of the extra cable that way.
One more question: While testing my setup, I discovered that the HxC can be set to 500000 bits/sec and then still read DD disks. My HD kit then gets the HD signal from HxC and uses 16MHz. Is this a feature? I mean, can I speed up DD disks by setting it to 16MHz without side effects?
