AUTOBOOT problems
AUTOBOOT problems
Dear support.
I' having problems with the AUTOBOOT / File Selector..
My HxC works just fine with normal use; Selecting the files from the HxC display, but auto-boot function freezes in start-up.
It boots up and goes to the "welcome" menu, but then a long beep is heard and the message "DIRECT ACCESS LBA:00000000 08" is displayed.
Then the menu is frozen...
I have read the manual several times, and updated the firmware to newest version, HXCFE_V1_8_2_40, using a freshly formatted FAT32 SD-card.
I've tried formating the SD-card again with brand new downloaded AUTOBOOT.HFE and brand new HXCSDFE.CFG setup to auto-boot from default.
I've tried running the card with the prepared files from the download site, containing the Arte demo.
The HxC itself has the buttons extended, not the original ones, but from the place that is given to do so.
The display is also extended. But unplugged or not, still the same problem.
Please help me!
How do I correct this?
Thanks,
Troels

Re: AUTOBOOT problems
mhh quite strange. Have you tried to change the floppy cable , the switch setting.
Is the amiga ok ? have you tried to refit the amiga chipsets ?

Yes I'm sure the Amiga is completely in working order, but to be sure I have tested in two other A500's.
The HxC has no problems playing the adf's without autoboot..
I'm using a Transcend 8GB SD-card, maybe some compatibility issues there?
Tried with a Kingston 4GB to make sure... didn't help
All the connections from the mods have been tested with a multimeter, no problems there either.
All the custom-chips/CPU/ROM checked, didn't help.
Tried again with no button/display extensions, didn't help.
I just noticed another thread a few years back, mentioning the same problem...
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=759
...but doesn't give any solution other than suggestion hardware failure... (?)

Re: AUTOBOOT problems
Most of time this was a problem with the Amiga itself...
Are you able to write something (a file) on a amigados image ?

Re: AUTOBOOT problems
I assumed you had some test file I should copy to disk and use somehow..
Re: AUTOBOOT problems
just start the WB then select the AUTOBOOT.HFE, and create a folder on it for example.TroelsDK wrote:I assumed you had some test file I should copy to disk and use somehow..
Then eject & reinsert the image or the sd : the folder should still there...
Once done please send me back the AUTOBOOT.HFE file.
Re: AUTOBOOT problems
I'm sorry I can't figure out what you mean... Open Workbench on HxC?

Please start the workbench on your amiga.TroelsDK wrote:I'm sorry I can't figure out what you mean... Open Workbench on HxC?
Re: AUTOBOOT problems
Okay, used internal DF to boot Workbench, then inserted AUTOBOOT.HFE via HXC as external drive.
- Copied the folder 'Empty' to it.
- Ejected AUTOBOOT.HFE, inserted AUTOBOOT.HFE ; Folder 'Empty' is still there.
Here is the altered AUTOBOOT.HFE

I hope this is what you meant?

Re: AUTOBOOT problems
Yes exactly ! This means that you can read/write to the emulator !TroelsDK wrote:Okay, used internal DF to boot Workbench, then inserted AUTOBOOT.HFE via HXC as external drive.

Anyway please send me the HFE file by email... speedy.sh ask to run an exe file : no way
Still an signal to check : the index. I will send you a new autoboot.hfe to test this one.
Re: AUTOBOOT problems
That's starange, it don't ask me to download any exe file.. Anyway, sent it to your email now
Re: AUTOBOOT problems
I seem to be having this same issue. I've been using the HxC very successfully on my ST, but I cannot launch images from the floppy manager on my Amiga 500, just from the front panel.
Should I re-format and lay everything down again?

To all people having this issue : Can you tell with A500 motherboard revision you have?
