Amiga loader software - PAL mode reboot?

Post by blakespot »

Hey there,

I have an NTSC Amiga 2000 in which I have installed an HxC2001.

http://www.bytecellar.com/2011/04/17/my ... adventure/

Before the HxC2001 came along, I would typically run Degrader (AmigaDOS app) to switch the system into PAL mode and then do a reboot to run euro demos and games. I did this for most floppy boots, actually, despite being an American user.

It would be SUCH A HUGE HELP if the Amiga HxC menu / loader software could set the system to PAL mode on reboot, as an option. Could this be considered?

Thanks so much. Would double the utility of the HxC2001 for me, easily.

All is possible, but... how degrader is working ? Is it open source ?

I've posted a thread at Amiga.org asking for particulars on getting this done. Some feedback has come in, though not much of it technical as yet.

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=63748

There is this, though:

http://www.amiga.org/forums/showpost.ph ... stcount=11

Would be such a great feature. It would only work on Amiga 2000s and 500s with the proper Agnus, on up the line.

ok seems easy to do. Do you have the right chipset?

Yes, I have an Amiga 2000 with an ECS Agnus display chip. I use Degrader (or did, when I had a floppy drive on the system) to switch from default NTSC to PAL with great success.

Here is a version of Degrader (more recent than what I am using, though):
http://aadb.amiga.me/data/degrader10d.html

While it allows you to configure other aspects of the system, like curtailing RAM levels, disabling CPU cache, etc. I find that 95% of the time I only use it to go from NTSC into PAL mode. So, I definitely think that offering "just" that functionality (and, naturally, taking a native PAL machine to NTSC also) would be worth adding. It would change my entire experience with HxC2001 and surely many others.

Thanks for considering!

(Of course, I am happy to test out a beta in any way I can.)

Wow... very nice Jeff!

Super glad I ran across this because I've been battling PAL games for a while now. To get it to work I would place my pal to NTSC program in the 1st slot and then the PAL game I want to play in the next slot/slots... reboot, set the system to PAL and then switch to slot 2 and reboot. Control Amiga Amiga.

Oh, and could you set this up for 1.8a? Or let me know how to do it?

Never mind or this request can wait till you have time.

I created a boot disk using the same degrader program you used. works great. :)

... and I see degrader is already on the v1.8 AUTOBOOT.HFE disk. :) I just need to change the startup-sequence.

exactly ! the file selector / manager is a normal software. You can add everything you want on this AUTOBOOT.HFE image (with ADFOpus...)
:D

I'm not sure what I'm missing. I started this thread and I never got this to work.

I have an NTSC A2000 and, sadly (for me), the few modern scenedemo releases for ECS/OCS come in ADF form still.

Is there an updated or alternate approach to get my NTSC A2000 booting HxC2001 images after switching to PAL mode? Updated versions of the files mentioned here, anyway? I'm trying to spend some fun time with the "new" demos and I can only really do it with HD-based demos, without HxC boot sequence allowing PAL switch.

Many many thanks for any help.

Never mind, I'm an idiot. It works perfectly, and did even way back when but I just didn't realize it. Bah.
