Gotek new images not bootable

Post by mikeyp »

Hi Jeff

Since you fixed the bit rate bug here viewtopic.php?f=33&t=3533 all my new images work fine in dos or windows for reading and writing but are not bootable. Normal floppies are bootable and the old images generated with the wrong bit rate are bootable. It doesn’t make any difference whether the bootable floppy is generated from a img file or a blank image is generated and then written from Windows.

What do I need to try or what information do I need to find to help you with this?

Thanks

Michael

have you tried to clear the internal emulator settings ?
have you tried to use the 2017 hxc software to convert the img ?
have you tried to use the img files directly ?
have you tried to use an older firmware version ?

All good things to try, I will give them a go probably tomorrow.

Hi Jeff

After testing, I can say that all the images generated are good. The fault is with the firmware. As part of troubleshooting last time, I had updated to HXCFEUSB_V3_1_34_2a.UPD. This won't boot any HFE or IMG images. I down graded back to firmware HXCFEUSB_V3_1_23_1a.UPD and everything is working once more with all images.

Clearing internal settings didn't make any difference.
I didn't need to try older software in the end.
I didn't try IMG files on the newer firmware but they work fine on the older firmware
The older firmware fixed the boot issue.
Both Goteks are already set to S1 and come up as A: (in different computers).

Thanks again

Hi Jeff

I can confirm HXCFEUSB_V3_1_31_4a.UPD allows floppies to boot fine, but HXCFEUSB_V3_1_32_1a.UPD gives the error message "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

Thanks again

Thanks ! Will fix this soon ! For the moment stay with the stable version or the V3_1_31_4a.

HXCFEUSB_V3_1_37_1a.UPD boots fine as does HXCFEUSB_V3_1_37_3a.UPD

Thanks again, you're amazing and HxC is worth every penny.
