Do you have to solder a resistor somewhere?

Someone that actually owns an XP-50 could probably verify this, but I believe that is the fix for it.
Try putting a resistor (between 1K to 4.7K ohms) on pin 30 of the floppy drive/cable which is the RDATA (read data) signal. I think if I was doing it, I would carefully separate out a small section of line 30 from the floppy cable (X-Acto knife?), snip it, strip both exposed ends, insert the resistor, solder into place.
