1Ko resistor pull-up

What excactly is the 1Ko resistor pull-up on RDATA -mod mention in the HxC Compability List for the Akai S1000?
Is it only for the Lotharek SD Rev F or for Gotek USB's as well?

Shouldn't be needed with the Gotek.
