Problem with old version Prophet 2000

Post by Dijf »

Hi, i've tried several disk images and settings and different SD cards, but the Prophet keeps saying 'IF' or 'nb' or 'F0'
But i've read this article about the floppy structure of the older 265kb version Prophets.
http://users.skynet.be/emxp/P2K%20Disk%20Layout.pdf
It says it uses old single sided floppies of 420 kb...
Anybody has an idea to generate this image?
My prophet 2000 is one of the very early versions (with OS 2.1)

No, the original drive is broken and i don't have any disks..
Now i installed OS 4.3B, but still the same problem. Only "iF', "OS", "nb" messages...
I made the SD card FAT32 with my mac and put the files for the Prophet2000/2002 from the "QuickInstall_FloppyDiskImages" folder on it with my mac... could be that this is the problem?
I also tried different SD cards (the newest too). Nothing.
Getting desperate

My Prophet does not have the Memory Expansion Board (PCB5) installed.
When i start up the P2000 with the SD card inserted, it does load something because the counter on the HxC goes to 78.
But it will not save ("S", "SA", "SB") anything ("iF")

The setup seems good.

Have you tried to format the image from the Prophet ?

Yes. Sometimes the HxC gives 3 bleeps and the numbers on the LCD jump around and then the P2000 says "iF" or "nb" or "OS".
Maybe it has something to do with the Memory Expansion missing?
Is there a .hfe file for a single sided P2000 disk?
The .hfe on the "QuickInstall_FloppyImages" folder are all double sided. Maybe that would solve it?
But i don't know the setting for the floppy emulator software to generate a single sided P2000 disk. Anyone?

Hi,

I'm interested in the HxC. The problem was solved? My p2002 also has an early serial number (~160), ROM-Vers. 3 and 2x256 RAM.

Thanks
Markus

"He didn't have the right OS floppy disk."

-> for the Hxc or for the Prophet?

Thanks

I don't think that OS 4.3B will work with a P2K set up for single sided floppy use?. The P2K checks the floppy drive on boot up for a disk (both sides) Maybe 512k needs to be installed and a trace cut on the circuit board to support 2 sided disk drives?

Sorry this is very specific to the Prophet 2000 and i don't have any definitive answer. It seems to have different OS versions for each hardware revision. But i am maybe wrong...
