Using 1 HxC for 2 floppy drives on a NEC PC-8801

Post by Namida88 »

Here is a simple way (even if you don't have any skill in electronic) to connect just one HxC to emulate two drives on a PC-88 (thank you Jeff for your help on this !)

This was done on a PC-8801MC, but it should work on any NEC PC (I will test later with a PC-9801RA or VM).

1. Connect the HxC to the first drive connector of the mother board.
2. Set jumper as if just one drive was emulated (Drive A, ID0 with a straight cable or Drive B, ID3 with a cross cable).
3. Now connect PIN number 10 of the second drive connector to a Drive B jumper PIN of the HxC (can be any of the 4 available PIN).

If you're not sure or it's unclear, please look at these pictures (done with a cross cable):

I hope this can help it you purchased only 1 HxC.
Although I recommend using 2 HxC if the games you play require you to often swap disks.

If someone could port this on PC88 this can be interesting :

it helped me doing the same on a pc8801 MC (i also have another model that has differents floppy connectors (a pc8801 MA2), i'll need to make adapters in order to make it run with hxc too !!!)
now i can play many great games using only 1 hxc !!!!
