.....just kidding...
This version will not be available for free (at least at the beginning), but made and sold by lotharek:
Devices will be fully assembled and tested. Prices will be something around 60-65euro (this price could change later).

Seriously, but 65e is ok, the usb version was at 80euro and at least ~100 units have been sold at this price without problem, and i don’t think you could make the device at a much lower price.
After some bad experiences with the “full free” mode (project cloned, copyright removed/changed in sources, etc), i don't plan anymore to release pcb, binary and sources for free... I think i have made a big mistake in this project: released the sources/pcb of the prototype. I don’t want that someone else make money with my work without agreement.
The other point is that the project need a true production line, able to deliver a working device. I am a little tired to “debug” badly soldered boards through the forum. If we cannot deliver a true device (and not only a schematic and a binary), I consider the project like already dead since most of potential users are not able to make it (equipment/time/cost problems…).
And if the project is “so brilliant”, i don’t think it will die with this “new” business model

On the contrary, the project is more alive than anytime.mimo wrote:Ouch, agreed that is way too much. Shame the project was killed by this decisionSir Morris wrote:+1petersieg wrote:@Jeff: I consider this bad news

(And many others people are ready to pay 65e or more this device)
@Jeff: That someone offers ready to run devices at 65€ doesn't hurt me! But the decision that this is no longer an open and free project does! It wish you
all the best for the future, but I am out now for this project and I will concentrate on other free projects..
Thanks anyway for your excellent work!
All the best,
Peter

The sdcard version of the floppy emulator have been free since at least 2 years now, and this doesn't bring anything. Most of people don't care about the "free" status of the project.petersieg wrote:@Jeff: That someone offers ready to run devices at 65€ doesn't hurt me! If i want to keep the project alive, or at least bring me some little advantage, i need to protect it. (i hope it's not too late...).
Making board is a risky and costly job, and i don't want that someone else become a competitor by making the same board (my board...).
