HFE File size

Post by mikeyp »

Hi, first post here. First thanks for the HXC firmware for both the HXC drives and GOTEK drives. Very good and very useful.

I'm sorry if this has already been asked/answered. I did a search but didn't find anything except to confirm my observation.

A DD 720KB floppy comes out with ~2MB .HFE file and a HD 1.44MB floppy is held on a ~4MB file. This is approximately 3 times larger than the original disk.

I'm just curious, but why is a HFE file so much larger than the floppy disk it is holding?

Thanks.

Because it stores all magnetic pulses and not only the user data.
It works at a lower level that an img file image.
