Any ideas for EPM7128SLC84 replacements

Post by petersieg »

Hi.. the cpld EPM7128SCL84 is not easy to optain.. discontinued.. and the price tag is getting higher..

Are there any ideas to possible replacements?
Newer cpld.. adapter socket..?

Or probably new board design with actual cpld?

Just a question..

No replacement in PLCC package.
Lot of replacement in cms (MAXII devices for example), but it's harder to solder (100-144 pins 0.5mm pitch etc)

But MAX7000 isn't descontinued !?!:

Hi Jeff.

Are these CPLD's also useable for HxC USB?

-> ATF1508AS-15JC84:
http://cgi.ebay.de/ATMEL-CPLD-ATF1508AS ... 0011302853

(BTW: The price is to high.. Just that I know I can use these chips as well..)

Thanks, Peter

very interesting!
This device seems pin-to-pin compatible with the epm7128 and is a 5V part! So this is electricaly compatible!

But i don't know if this device is 100% equivalent to the epm7128 (i didn't found the information on the net)

(EDIT: i have found the information here : http://www.atmel.com/dyn/resources/prod ... OC0916.PDF
So this the device is compatible ! : this a chip that we should test.
:-) )

(the price is lower there : http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea ... S-7JX84-ND)

More informations about this chip here :

Hmm. Jep. That seems to be a replacement for Altera EPM7128 made by Atmel..

>(the price is lower there : ATF1508AS-7JX84-ND)
They mention 96 I/O ports.. that can't be right..?! PLCC84=84 PIN's!?

Anyway, the ATF1508AS-10JU84-ND costs app. 12€/piece.
The above -7JX84-ND only app. 6€/piece.

The cheapest EPM7128 I could find was at segor for app. 20€/piece.

Also I don't know, if the Atmel chips can be programmed with Altera Byteblaster??

(So many questions..)

POF file converted with POF2JED...

but so far no effects

Software says EMULATOR NOT DETECTED nevertheless led is indicating connection to PC...strange

Hi lotharek and/or Jeff,

What is the minimum setup to program the ATF1508? Does one need the decoupling capacitors? Of just the wire up all the VCC and Ground connections and the JTag pins to the CPLD and all should work? Also, does one require a 5V source or will the ByteBlaster uppply that via JTag VCC pin?

Thanks,
Moe

Nevermind, I got it.

For completeness and for those that are interested:

1 - CPLD (AFT1508AS)
8 - decoupling capacitors
1 - ByteBlasterMV
1 - 5V power source

One important note: your programming cable "ByteBlaster" should not exceed 6 feet and don't use a LPT parallel cable between computer and CPLD/Dev board.

decoupling capacitors are for your safety.

i use 4 metres long lpt cable and works

byteblaster - homemade lotharek version. looks shit but works.

at picture my first "bought" programer - i fried him after some tortures.
