Emulating drives with internal data separators

Post by cube1us »

In my travels I have come across some drives that have internal data separators (for example, the Persci 277, reference http://bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/pdf/persci/), and controllers whose interfaces are set up for them (for example, the Cromemco 4FDC was set up that way, as would be the Processor Technology controller for Sols, I expect).

Usually, if the controller also supported 5 inch drives with no data separator, one can work around this by using the 5-inch connection on the controller connecting to the Emulator (or a real 8-inch drive), but it might be nice to be able to handle this.

Any thoughts? Is there a way to put this on your wish list? This would be a real departure for a disk configuration, of course, and have to use some unused pins (say, pins 4 and 6) for the separated data and clock.

Thoughts?

Thanks.
