LCD problems
Re: LCD problems
A LCD replacement is needed here. Try to contact Lotharek for this.
Re: LCD problems
Ok, thank you very much for your response, I will contact with Lotharek.
Re: LCD problems
I have this same issue - the display works for a while, and then shows a row of dark characters on top, and spaces below. I will contact Lotharek as well.
Re: LCD problems
Your problem is a grounding issue : Place a tape between the LCD ribbon and the metal case, this shouldn't happen anymore.cube1us wrote:I have this same issue - the display works for a while, and then shows a row of dark characters on top, and spaces below. I will contact Lotharek as well.
Anyway once the emulator case is properly installed into the computer, this doesn't happen.
Re: LCD problems
I don't think the ribbon cable is really an issue - the ribbon cable is insulated. However, I can see why some might think that. At one point I found that the ribbon cable connection to the board was touchy - removing it and reinserting it helped. So it may be that some who did as you say ended up disturbing the connector a bit which caused the display to start working again.
In addition, I got a not from Lotharek (who just loves these displays - NOT) who indicated that the bezel (held on the back by tabs that are bent over) is important. In working on that I saw just how important - it actually presses the liquid crystal part of the assembly into the contacts, and if it is loose, strange things happen. And if it slides a little bit sideways, as it did on me for a while, the display can vary from corrupted characters to blank.
Finally, while those metal tabs are painted, they also go right over some holes in the circuit board for the display (called "vias") and I slipped a piece of paper between the tabs and the board as well.
In any event, mine seems to be stable now, and if it becomes a problem again, I have ideas on how to get it working properly.
