HFE support in MESS

Has anyone considered putting the HFE format as a supported format in MESS?

I was asking in the TI-99/4A forum that I frequent about if it was supported or not, and they weren't sure if HFE support was in the core. Is anyone here involved with MESS or knows if HFE can be put in as a recognized floppy format? Is so, that would be awesome since so many formats can be ported to the common HFE format.

Is Mess have a true floppy controller emulation (FM/MFM track based) and not a only a data sector "get/set" emulation ?

I'm not sure. The general documentation site is not too specific.

The mizapf person in the AtariAge thread is the contributor of the TI-99/4A emulation, so hopefully we can get the specs in the HFE PDF to the right people
