Sony OA-D32W FFD support on HP 9122D

Post by rastro »

My HP 9122D uses 2 Sony OA-D32W floppy drives. Will the HcX support emulation of this dive?
Uses 26-pin data cable IDE type. Can probably make adapter to 34-pin on emulator.

Sony OA-D32W:
RPM: 600
Encoding: MFM
DD/720KB
Cylinders:80
Tracks:160
Sectors/Track:9
Bytes/Sector:512
Data transfer rate:500kbps

HP 9122D:
protocol SS/80.

This should be compatible.

So I should order a "SD HxC Floppy Emulator REV F 3"1/2 Form factor/cased (HE10 34 pins interface)"
Build a 34 to 26 pin adapter to the HP 9122D controller.
Set the jumpers for 2 FDD system (probably need to experiment) page 9 of user manual.

The HP 9122D system does not use FAT on it's floppy format.
Here's where I'm not clear. Can I just stick in the SD HxC Floppy Emulator and use then use the host system to format the memory card card directly???

Thanks

You can format the hxc images or generate them from floppy disks.

I don't think I understand the difference between formatting an hxc image verses those generated by a floppy disk.

I just want to plug in the hardware directly into the HP 9122D and see it as a floppy. I want to use the HP 9122D to talk to the HxC hardware to format virtual floppy(file) directly.
I do not have a comparable floppy or working floppy drive to use additional software/apps to create a virtual floppy(file) with other supporting software/applications.

Thanks for help
