IO Error on CoCo

Post by yell0w_lantern »

I just got a CoCo 3 and I cannot get the HxC to load anything.

I previously had some trouble getting it going ona CoCo 2 until I figured out I was using tghe cassette load command instead of disk and I found taht I had to reset the computer before accessing the HxC. This second issue is strange to me in that if I try to access HxC files without reseting the CoCo2 I get "IO error" - I don't understand why a reset takes care of this.

On my CoCo3 I get the IO error message as well except that it does not resolve with a reset.

I'm using a standard CoCo disk controller but the previous owner did install ADOS on it. Could ADOS be the problem, am I doing something wrong or do I have a bad HxC. I am especially concerned about the last possibility because I cannot load any TI games through the PEB either although I can access the disk from inside a game like Tunnels of Doom.

My point of reference is from the back of the device. From the front (can't see it from the front but if you could:
. . . I
. . I I
. . I .

A couple of the pins for the 34 pin connector are not flush with the others and have recessed somewhat. When I was trying to get the TI-99 and the CoCo2 to work before, I pulled them flush again using needle nose pliers but it did not seem to make a difference for either machine before.

Changed jumper settings and no difference.

Hello,

I'm having the same IO ERROR here. Just renamed the original DSK Coco files, found everywhere on the net, to JVC and exported to the SD. When make a DIR, it just reads to track 17 and keep repeating. Never passes track 17.

My SD emulator have firmware 0.2.2.0.

Thanks!
Daniel

Hi Jeff,

Follow both the HFE and DSK (renamed to JVC) that I used. The same occur with others as well.

Thanks,
Daniel

Hi,

the files look good.

Regarding the firmware version your are using, i suppose that you are using the prototype version?
I am not sure that this hardware version is able to drive the 150ohms pull up present in the Coco.
as far i remember the floppy interface on the prototype used 74LS05 -> 8mA of driving max.

Well this was one of the designs flaw present in this old prototype version : The buffer used here are not able to drive floppy bus with 150ohms pull up.

Are you sure that you don't want to get the lastest slim version ?
