CP/M emulation using ADC Super Quad and HXC emulator Rev 9

Post by mysteron » Wed Jun 06, 2018 1:19 am

I have an ADC Super Quad board that I am trying to set up with CP/M. I have been successful in attaching a Rev 9 HXC emulator using the Advanced Digital Corporation Super Quad and Super Six images from the Maslin archives and David Dunfield's site. The HXC emulator works ok in either a single drive or dual configuration.
I can successfully read the directories of the images (after conversion to HFE format) and run the programs from either the A: or B: disk images.

However I haven't been successful in being able to write with, copy or delete these files from within the CP/M environment. Also running format from within CP/M doesn't work. I've also tried to create a blank or empty disk and mount on the B: drive but I cannot get it to be recognized by CP/M The emulator seems to treat these images as read only and trying to change the state of the mounted images to read/write with CP/Ms STAT utility doesn't work.

I haven't as yet played with the emulator in a DOS environment to see if that works.

Does anyone know if there is a way to enable disk writing under CP/M?

Thanks Galasphere

Sorry my mistake.

I'm using a Rev F emulator.

Thanks,

I've attached some of the images in zipped format with this reply.

Another example image is located at this link

http://www.retroarchive.org/maslin/disk ... index.html

The file name is adc-cpm.td0

It's too large to attach to this message

Thanks

This image seems to have a bad sector. And i think that the RPM is wrong. Is the original disk drive rotation at 300 RPM or 360 RPM ?

With the zipped files, I don't get any errors, everything works fine except that when they are loaded and running the CP/M operating system they contain, on the ADC Super Quad, none of the functions that write to disk will work. For example erasing files, copying files from A: to B: or the CP/M format command. The commands themselves are recognized but the virtual disk but the content doesn't change.

As for the adc-cpm.td0 image, it will load and run fine but again none of the write to disk functions will actually change their content. I'll have to run teledisk on this image to see if it is at 300 or 360 rpm and post the result.

Thanks,

I am not sure what the rotational speed of these images were created at.
I don't if it really matters as I am using them in their imaged state, that is not a real physical drive.

The ADC Super Quad manual refers to the disk drive as being IBM 3740 compatible:-

1.1 The Floppy Disk Controller
----------~-----~--~-~----
The floppy disk controller can access up to four 8 inch or 5.25
inch floppy disk drives. It can read and write IBM 3740 single
density format and double density 128,256,512,1924 sector size
formats.

Hope this helps,

Thanks

One bad sector + something wrong with the rpm or the sector gap.
