Casio Celviano AL-100R/Al-150R Digitalpiano and SDCard HxC

Post by bob001 »

Dear Forum users,

good news for all Casio Digital Piano users with Floppy drives!

Today I've managed it (because of brilliant support of Jeff - thank you!) to load the first Casio Disk Image with the SDCard HxC Floppy Emulator.

Here the full story:
I've got a Casio Celviano AL-100R Digital Piano dated from about 2000/2001 (the one with the 2 colored LED Lighting Learning System). And I wanted to replace it with a flash memory system (SD-Card, USB Stick,...). So I found some USB Floppy emuators on ebay. I ordered one of this low cost emulators but didn't have any success to get it working (there was no user support at all). After being disappointed I searched for other alternatives. So I found and ordered Jeff's SDCard HxC floppy emulator from Lotharek.
And today - after great support from Jeff - I managed it to get my first Casio Disk image loaded successfully!

Thank you Jeff!

No we must find out what settings to use permanently.

Best regards
Robert

In fact the Celviano AL-100R seems to need the long name support on the floppy disk.
Actually the hxc floppy generator use only short name.

So for the moment just use winimage to create a 720KB floppy disk image, and convert the IMA disk with the HxC software.

How do I generate a 720KB floppy disk with winimage (standard edition)? The real disks are all 1.44MB. Also setting (with the working image) from HxC is (at the moment) 1.44MB PC.

thx
Robert

File -> New -> Standard fomat : 720KB
After drag & drop your files.
Save -> Type : *.ima.

After With the HxC Software just convert the IMA file to HFE (leave the HFE interface mode to "Auto")

You can also try the 1.44MB size with the same procedure but it seems that there are a problem with your keyboard. Can you confirm me this ?

yes, I can confirm 720KB is working well, 1.44MB doesn't work (although I've some disks with more than 720 kB..)

No, I've tried this. It's also not possible to write to an non empty disk with HxC (Only 720KB Disk images are accessible). Reading is no problem. In the meantime I've converted all floppy disks to 720 KB images --> they are working fine : -)
In general it is possible to use MS DOS and Windows formated Floppy Disk with this keyboard (with the built in drive). The user guide says "Error! Bad Disk?" --> There was an error during access to the floppy disk.

What did you get on the floppy emulator LCD when you try to write something ?
Can you send me a small video of the hxc behaviour?

Hello Jeff,

I've sent you a video file with following actions on Casio:

-"Disk" button on Casio --> RA on HxC
- Save file on Casio -->...?!?!? on HxC
- at the end the display on HxC stays always the same

Robert
